Environmental Cooling Mode
Tall buildings can act like Chimneys; the upper Storeys can become unbearably hot during the Summer months, since heat rises.
Some tall buildings have a Fire Smoke Extraction System that also provides Cooling of the building when it is in "Environmental Mode".
This works by running the Smoke Extraction Fans at low speed. Windows on selected levels and the Smoke Vent at the top of the Staircase are partially opened to provide relatively cool air from outside, thus reducing the temperature in the building.
In the event of a Fire Alarm or Smoke Detection, the Environmental Mode is suspended and the system reverts to Smoke Extraction Mode.
Such systems can be complicated and develop problems that can compromise the "Life Safety" qualities of the Smoke Extraction System.
We are highly experienced with these "Combined" systems and are able to Service, Maintain, TroubleShoot and Repair them as needed. We can also supply and fit replacement parts.
